{"id":442,"date":"2024-04-26T15:49:18","date_gmt":"2024-04-26T20:49:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/enrollmentmanagement\/?page_id=442"},"modified":"2026-03-26T12:07:38","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T17:07:38","slug":"re-enrollment","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/enrollmentmanagement\/program-highlights\/re-enrollment\/","title":{"rendered":"Re-Enrollment"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Division of Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Success (SEMSS) leads re-enrollment efforts across campus through:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Collaborative data sharing that ties together student performance, account, and activity data to enable strategic outreach by campus partners.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/navigate\">Technology-enabled outreach campaigns<\/a>&nbsp;that encourage students in the enrollment process, capture student intent, and provide self-service options.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Direct outreach from student and professional staff within the Student Success Center.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Faculty and staff can <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/enrollmentmanagement\/campus-partner-engagement\/request-partnership-or-support\/\">request support<\/a>&nbsp;in their re-enrollment efforts through the Student Success Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-u-flex uwm-u-flex--left\">\n<a class=\"uwm-c-button uwm-c-button--icon-right uwm-c-button--icon-arrow uwm-u-mr-20 uwm-u-mb-20\" href=\"https:\/\/app.powerbi.com\/reportEmbed?reportId=c735e80d-a2b5-40fa-944a-7712a30b84e6&amp;autoAuth=true&amp;ctid=0bca7ac3-fcb6-4efd-89eb-6de97603cf21&amp;navContentPaneEnabled=false\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Re-Enrollment Dashboard<\/a>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-high-impact-practices-for-instructors-to-encourage-re-enrollment\">High-Impact Practices for Instructors to Encourage Re-enrollment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Academic Services and Advising Leadership Council (ASALC) includes assistant deans and directors who oversee advising, recruitment and retention, and student success across UWM\u2019s schools, colleges, and advising units. Students consistently share that feeling seen, supported, and valued strongly influences their ability to pursue their educational goals at UWM. To strengthen care and connection, ASALC offers the following recommendations for faculty, instructors, and staff who want to encourage re-enrollment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-make-an-announcement-in-class-or-in-canvas\">Make an Announcement in Class or in Canvas<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Recommended language:<\/strong> Enrollment for [Term Year] began on [Date], and open enrollment begins on [Date]. If you haven\u2019t already, please make an appointment with your academic advisor to discuss your spring classes. You can find your advisor listed in PAWS or in the Navigate360 app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Undergraduate Students: If you have questions about enrollment holds, please contact the <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/studentsuccess\/\">Student Success Center.<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Graduate Students: If you have questions about enrollment holds, please contact the Graduate School at 414-229-6569 or <a href=\"mailto:gradschool@uwm.edu\">gradschool@uwm.edu<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-provide-students-with-meaningful-feedback\">Provide Students with Meaningful Feedback<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Offer clear, timely feedback to help students understand how they are performing and what steps they can take to finish the term strong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the term concludes, consider sending brief, personalized notes to students who demonstrated improvement, resilience, or excellence. These messages can reinforce students\u2019 sense of belonging and support their commitment to academic progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-encourage-students-to-address-financial-barriers\">Encourage Students to Address Financial Barriers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Remind students to <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/finances\/finances\/types-of-financial-aid\/\">apply for grants and scholarships<\/a> and to connect with <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/finances\/contact\/\">Student Financial Services<\/a> if they have outstanding balances. Early action can prevent financial holds that delay re-enrollment and disrupt academic momentum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-share-course-information-transparently\">Share Course Information Transparently<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Ensure that detailed course descriptions and syllabi are available on departmental websites. Transparent course information helps students preview expectations, plan their academic pathway, and make informed enrollment decisions. For Example: <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/sociology\/students\/undergraduates\/courses-and-syllabi\/\">Undergraduate Course Syllabi \u2013 Sociology<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-graduate-faculty-advisors-follow-up-with-graduate-representatives\">Graduate Faculty Advisors: Follow Up with Graduate Representatives<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Graduate faculty advisors should work with their program\u2019s graduate representative to identify students who have not yet enrolled for the next academic term and proactively reach out to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-utilize-curricular-design-that-supports-advanced-planning\">Utilize Curricular Design that Supports Advanced Planning<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Promote curricular structures with clear sequencing of courses.
