Or just wish to spend more time reading literature, examining film and media, or writing your own creative fiction, poetry, or prose? The English Department offers two different minors that can be a great addition to your degree program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In survey after survey, prospective employers complain that many of today\u2019s graduating students lack the skills in writing and presentation that English degree holders typically have. Whether you are going into a scientific field, a health or medical career, business, or one of the professions, an English Minor demonstrates to future employers or graduate programs that you have the broad preparation to succeed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>English majors may not pursue a minor in Writing, Editing, and Publishing.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. When to Declare<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can declare the minor as long as you have taken one of the courses listed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/english\/academics\/minor\/#tab-english-minor-requirements\">requirements on the Minor academic page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. To declare your minor fill out and submit the form at the link below.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-u-flex uwm-u-flex--wrap uwm-u-flex--left\">\n<a class=\"uwm-c-button uwm-u-mr-20 uwm-u-mb-20\" href=\"https:\/\/ls-apps.ad.uwm.edu\/secure\/declaration\/minor\/prod\/index.php?collegeFilter=letters-science&amp;departmentFilter=english\" rel=\"\">Declaration of English Minor<\/a>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3.&nbsp; Initial Advising Appointment to Declare the Minor<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The next step is to contact the Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies, preferably via email (<a href=\"mailto:szczepan@uwm.edu\">szczepan@uwm.edu<\/a>). You&nbsp;<em>must<\/em>&nbsp;request an appointment.
