In addition to the requirements for the major, students must also satisfy all of the university general education requirements and the College of Letters & Science breadth and other degree requirements. Degree requirements will vary depending on when you took your first college class. You are strongly advised to consult your advisor to ensure you stay on track towards a degree and to read more about the requirements.
There are hundreds of courses that satisfy various requirements, and courses in the major can be used. For example, English 215 counts as a Humanities general education and breadth course.
This sample illustrates one path to completing the English major with a Literary and Cultural Studies focus and a bachelor of arts degree in four years. This sample assumes you took no foreign language in high school and that your placement test scores were sufficient to start in college-level math and English. In addition, this sample reflects the degree requirements for students who began their college education in Fall of 2013 or later. If you started college coursework prior to Fall of 2013, your degree requirements may be different. This sample also assumes that you maintain an average credit load of 15 credits per semester. Your schedule may look very different depending on your specific circumstances. Please consult your advisor to find the schedule that best meets your needs.
