Travel Guidelines

2019-20 English Department Travel Guidelines for Undergraduate Students

Departmental Policy:

UWM English majors who are members in good standing of Sigma Tau Delta are eligible to apply for up to $250 in funding for travel to academic or professional meetings. Applicants who present or actively participate have a better chance of being awarded funding.

Required Actions:

  • Prior to travel
    • The awards process must be completed before travel commences. Submit a request for funding along with documentation justifying travel (acceptance letter, presentation abstract, and/or official description of the meeting), as well as a letter of support from an English department faculty member (professor, lecturer, GTA), to the Chair of the English Department (Prof. Gregory Jay,
    • Once approved, you will work with Brooke Barker (, Curtin Hall 439) or Christopher Hofland (, Curtin Hall 418) to create an online Travel Authorization Request, or complete the paper Travel Authorization Form.
  • After travel
    • To be reimbursed, submit your itemized travel receipts and a rationale, within 90 days of travel, to Brooke Barker or Christopher Hofland. University employees are reimbursed via direct deposit; non-UWM employees are reimbursed by check.
