Foundation admission is for international students who have been admitted to an academic degree program at UWM but still need to complete required foundational coursework because of IEP recommendation or TOEFL/IELTS score. A student with foundation admission cannot carry more than 16 credits overall.
Students can receive foundation admission by receiving IEP recommendation OR by submitting a TOEFL or IELTS score that meets English Proficiency requirements. In other words, a student who successfully completes (achieves all the outcomes) the B1 level in the core courses for a semester from our IEP can go directly into a UWM academic program WITHOUT a TOEFL or IELTS score. However, if you plan on taking the TOEFL or IELTS to apply for academic study at UWM, see the requirements for foundation admission here.

If you received foundation admission by IEP recommendation, please refer to the table below to understand your foundational coursework requirements. **Please note that ALL your foundational courses carry credit towards a degree, and you must receive a C or higher in all EAP coursework to pass out of the class.
