{"id":29645,"global_id":"uwm.edu\/engineering?id=29645","global_id_lineage":["uwm.edu\/engineering?id=29645"],"author":"19687","status":"publish","date":"2026-05-13 14:26:02","date_utc":"2026-05-13 19:26:02","modified":"2026-05-13 14:26:36","modified_utc":"2026-05-13 19:26:36","url":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/engineering\/event\/tech-council-luncheon-future-of-quantum-technology\/","rest_url":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/engineering\/wp-json\/tribe\/events\/v1\/events\/29645","title":"Tech Council Luncheon: Future of quantum technology","description":"<p>The Wisconsin Technology Council will host a luncheon panel focused on Wisconsin\u2019s role in developing quantum technologies and the opportunities quantum poses for the state\u2019s industries and workers <strong>Thursday, May 28 <\/strong>in Milwaukee.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_x_last-child\">Panelists include <strong>Ali Abedi<\/strong>, vice chancellor \u00a0for research at the UW-Milwaukee;<strong>Dmitry Babikov<\/strong>, professor of \u00a0chemistry at Marquette University; <strong>Mark Eriksson<\/strong>, director of the \u00a0Wisconsin Quantum Institute and professor of electrical and computer engineering at the UW-Madison; <strong>Prasenjit \u00a0Guptasarma, <\/strong>professor of physics and dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the UW-Milwaukee; and <strong>Kate Timmerman<\/strong>, executive director of the Chicago Quantum Exchange.<\/p>\n<p>The event will take place at the UW-Milwaukee Lubar Entrepreneurship Center, bringing together industry leaders, and researchers to explore the current state of quantum technology and its future applications. Registration, buffet lunch and networking will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by the program at 12:15 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_x_last-child\">The discussion will examine how quantum technologies are advancing across research institutions, the opportunities for commercialization and collaboration and the role Wisconsin and the broader Midwest can play in shaping the future of the field.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe development of quantum technologies is at an inflection point, and Wisconsin is playing a leading role in its development and application,\u201d said Maggie Brickerman, president of the Wisconsin Technology Council. \u201cThis is an exciting opportunity to demystify quantum for our members and build continued momentum across industry, workforce and entrepreneurs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The cost to attend is $10 for entrepreneurs, students and veterans; $25 for individual members; and $40 for general admission. Attendance is included for Tech Council corporate members.<\/p>\n<p>The Wisconsin Technology Council is the independent, nonpartisan science and technology advisor to the governor and the Legislature.
