Prasenjit Guptasarma has been named associate dean for academic affairs.

Guptasarma — a UWM physics professor who has been affiliated with the college’s departments of electrical engineering and computer science—is a highly accomplished researcher and educator with extensive experience in shared governance.

His research interests in materials science and condensed matter physics are focused on strongly correlated electron systems such as unconventional superconductivity and magnetism, on topological quantum materials, and on materials for next-generation energy storage.

Prasenjit also has interests in learner-centered teaching practice, discovery driven learning, and the changing landscape of higher education. In recent years, Prasenjit has served as chair of the Department of Physics, and as special assistant to UWM’s vice chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and the UWM chancellor.

“His perspectives will be extremely valuable as the college works toward reaching its strategic goals and UWM evolves, in accordance with the 2030 Action Plan, to advance student success and fulfill its mission as a research and access institution,” said Brett Peters, dean.
