Wisconsin Government, Industry and University Partnerships to Meet Transportation and Infrastructure Challenges
Speaker: Craig Thompson, Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT)
The UWM Institute for Physical Infrastructure & Transportation (IPIT) is pleased to host this inaugural fall seminar at UWM. The focus of IPIT is to find solutions to our nation’s physical infrastructure and transportation problems through collaborative research, education, work force development, and technology transfer. The Institute enjoys collaboration across a wide array of disciplines through the affiliation of faculty, students, industry representatives, and others with expertise in engineering, computer science, urban planning, social science, economy, and policy.
Secretary Thompson will speak on WisDOT’s vision for future transportation and infrastructure systems in the state, the role of technology integration, and how a partnership between government, industry, and universities may be created and leveraged to achieve such a vision for the state of Wisconsin.
Secretary Thompson leads WisDOT, one of the largest state agencies, with 3,400 employees and a biennial budget of more than $6 billion. Secretary Thompson served as the Executive Director of the Transportation Development Association (TDA) prior to being designated as the WisDOT Secretary in January 2019. He has over 25 years of experience working with Wisconsin businesses, communities, legislators and units of government.
