Giselle Irankunda’s story was one of three stories featured at the fall 2018 Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, December 16. Giselle and her family came to the United States seven years ago as refugees from Congo. She was almost 19 when she enrolled at Milwaukee’s South Division High School. A college pathways program helped her go on to UWM to study civil engineering. With scholarship help, Irankunda has been able to research public transportation issues with Assistant Professor Jie Yu and travel to Germany, Rwanda, Uganda and Congo to gather data.
