In April, Ryo Amano, professor of mechanical engineering and director of UWM’s Industrial Assessment Center, was elected to “fellow grade” by the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS). This is the society’s highest grade, bestowed upon those in the profession of aeronautics or aerospace. Founded in 1866, RAeS is the oldest aeronautical society in the world.
Amano was elected based on his outstanding contributions to the profession of aeronautics in solid rockets and space shuttles, as well as the high-quality of his publications.
He also has contributed to aeronautical professional societies, including serving as technical committee chair of the Propulsion and Energy Division in the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).
Amano is currently Fellow of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Fellow of International Society for Energy, Environment and Sustainability (ISEES), and Associate Fellow of AIAA.
