Alex Francis, a University Innovation Fellow, recently represented UWM and the college to 350 student and faculty attendees from 80 universities and colleges around the world. Francis shared his story at the Silicon Valley meetup held at Microsoft in March. He and the other fellows who spoke were hand-selected out of the community of 1,000 fellows for the impact they have had at their schools and for their contributions to the national movement.
UWM was represented at this event by eight University Innovation fellows and Ilya Avdeev, Director, NSF I-Corps Site/Student Startup Challenge and Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering.
Attendees took part in immersive experiences at Stanford University’s d.school, Google, Microsoft and other Silicon Valley organizations. They participated in experiential workshops and exercises focused on topics including movement building, innovation spaces, design of learning experiences, and new models for change in higher education.
