UWM's Computer Science program has 20-25 TA positions during the Fall and Spring semesters. A few of these positions become available each semester. Teaching assistants receive a modest stipend and a full tuition waiver. They become University of Wisconsin employees and are eligible for group health insurance through the university (which is subsidized, but not free).
You can apply for a TA position by completing the online form below. Applications for the Fall semester should be submitted by the preceding April 1st. Applications for the Spring semester should be submitted by the preceding October 1st. Applications submitted by those dates will receive full consideration. Applications received later than those dates will be reviewed on an as-needed basis.
Applicants may choose to submit two letters of recommendation, but this is not required. Such letters are especially helpful when they come from UWM faculty who have direct knowledge of the student's abilities. The recommendations can be sent via e-mail to email@example.com (preferred) or via post to:

Criteria for Computer Science Teaching Assistant Appointments
- Superior academic performance and promise. GRE scores are not required, but are very helpful in assessing academic promise, especially for students not already at UWM.
- Strong research potential as evidenced by enrollment as a PhD student or as an MS student with the thesis option. (TAs pursuing an MS are generally required to choose the thesis option.)
- Strong communication skills. For non-native speakers of English, this is assessed by the TOEFL or by an ESL assessment test at UWM.
- Academic preparation/professional background in relation to the Program's needs.
