SUMMARY:Hula & Polynesian Culture Workshop Series
DESCRIPTION:Hula & Polynesian Culture Workshop Series \nJoin the Electa Quinney Institute for American Indian Education for a weekly cultural immersion experience led by Artist-In-Residence Malia Chow from Nā Hale Studios and special guests. This engaging workshop series invites participants to explore the rich traditions of hula and oli (chant)\, learn halau protocols\, and reflect on Hawaiian values such as aloha\, kuleana\, and pono. \nWorkshops will take place every Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM\, beginning January\, in Merrill Hall – Room 142 at UWM (2512 E. Hartford Ave\, Milwaukee\, WI 53211). Light refreshments will be provided. \nOpen to UWM students\, faculty\, staff\, and community members\, this series fosters meaningful connections between Polynesian lifeways and participants’ own cultural traditions and wellness practices.

DESCRIPTION:Fire Circle Soup gatherings bring our community together around the EQI Fire Circle to prepare and share soup made with locally sourced or locally grown Indigenous foods. These gatherings create space for warmth\, conversation\, connection to land\, and the sharing of food traditions. Everyone is welcome — come for the soup\, stay for the fire.\n\nUpcoming Fire Circle Soups\nWednesday\, April 1\n11:00 AM–2:00 PM\nSoup preparation begins at 11:00 AM\, with serving around noon. \nTuesday\, April 14\n2:00–5:00 PM – Film Screening\nJoin us starting at 2:00 PM\, with soup served around 3:00 PM. Afterwards\, we will host a screening of Kanenon:we – Original Seeds with guests from Ukwakhwa.\nThis gathering will also feature a special spread of jams and jellies bartered from Ukwakhwa — come taste and learn! \nMonday\, May 4\n12:00–3:00 PM – Coffee & Corn Mush\nWe’ll have soup at the EQI Fire Circle throughout the afternoon\, starting around noon.\nCome early for Coffee & Corn Mush that morning\, then stay with us at the fire all day! \nHosted by the Electa Quinney Institute for American Indian Education and the American Indian Student Center.
