{"id":3838,"date":"2023-03-01T10:07:50","date_gmt":"2023-03-01T16:07:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/education\/?page_id=3838"},"modified":"2026-04-01T11:19:21","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T16:19:21","slug":"piece-project","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/education\/students\/piece-project\/","title":{"rendered":"PIECE Project"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"uwm-l-row\">\n<div class=\"uwm-l-col\">\n<p>The PIECE Project is looking for passionate and caring pre-service and in-service early childhood teacher candidates who value children\u2019s differences as assets to meet the urgent need of training and retaining quality inclusive educators in our community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The PIECE Project provides inclusive early childhood pre-service and in-service teacher candidates with high-quality coursework, diverse field experiences, and one-on-one mentoring to prepare inclusive teachers who will create strong learning environments in which multilingual\/multimodal learners and students with disability labels can thrive academically and socially.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PIECE Project candidates will be eligible to obtain licensure in Wisconsin for the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Early Childhood Education<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Early Childhood Special Education<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>K-12 English as a Second Language<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add-on Bilingual Education (candidate must be proficient in Spanish or Hmong and English).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"a0\">The Need for Inclusive Educators<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>English Learners comprise a tremendously diverse group of students in US public schools, representing 9.6% of the total student population.
