ASL Eyeth Day

This event is to raise awareness and recognition of American Sign Language (ASL) aligning with National ASL Day in April which honors the unique heritage of ASL and celebrates Deaf culture.

Eyeth Day: Deaf Life Stories by WESP-DHH
9:00 – 11:00 am
UWM Union, First Floor Concourse
WESP-DHH (Wisconsin Educational Services Program for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing ) have invited deaf guest speakers to tell about their life stories. They will share what it is like being Deaf or Hard of Hearing, growing up, and their success in professional environments. Free and open to the public.
Eyeth Day: ASLmazing Race by ASL Teacher
1:00 – 3:00 pm
UWM Union, 1st through 5th floor
Similar to the TV show, “Amazing Race.” ASLmazing Race will have different activities/ tasks throughout Student Union, 1st-5th floor. Attendees will meet Deaf individuals who will give instructions in completing a certain task before they can move on to the next. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for best time. (There will be elevators). Free and open to the public.
Eyeth Day: ASL Film: “Sign Gene” by SSA
4:00 – 6:00 pm
“Sign Gene” is an ASL film. This film will be shown entirely in American Sign Language. There will be captions for the ASL-impaired. View the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjtBgcB-38U (May not be suitable for children, parental discretion advised) Free and open to the public.
Eyeth Day: ASL Chronicles by SSA
7:00 – 9:00 pm
Deaf performers will show their talents through storytelling. There will be interpreters present. Free and open to the public.
