ACCESS Summer PD Opportunity: Beyond Diversity Sessions
Tuesday, August 27 @ 8:00 am - 3:30 pm
One event on Wednesday, August 28 at 8:00 am
As we develop a more in-depth knowledge about Restorative Practices and Culturally Responsive Practices across our programs, the ACCESS grant will sponsor a set of Beyond Diversity PD sessions (Please see the description at the bottom of this email*) for MPS, UWM, and community partner leaders.
The ACCESS grant maintains and cultivates a close relationship with MPS and their community partners. All MPS school administrators recently attended the June PLI and had the opportunity to hear a keynote address presented by Ms. Nunez, a dynamic speaker and facilitator for Beyond Diversity PD. Additionally, many of the MPS personnel we work with have attended the Beyond Diversity PD and had nothing but great things to say about the sessions and Ms. Nunez.
Using the link below, please sign up as soon as possible. Space is limited as school and district leaders from MPS have been invited as well. If you sign-up, you must attend BOTH days of the session.
August 27 & 28, 2019 from 8:00 am – 3:30 pm
Jan Serr Studio
2155 N Prospect Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53202
*Beyond Diversity Description
Participants will be introduced to the Courageous Conversations About Race (CCAR) Protocol: The 4 Agreements, 6 Conditions, and the Compass and explore the use of the Protocol when engaging in courageous conversations centered around race and racism. This workshop is based on the work of Glenn Singleton. Attendees will engage in a thoughtful, compassionate exploration of race and racism and grapple with how each influences the culture and climate of our schools; and practice using the CCAR Protocol for identifying and addressing policies, programs, and practices that negatively impact achievement for students of color and serve as barriers for ALL students receiving a world-class education.
