This past week I had regular monthly meetings with Jeremy Page, Johannes Britz, Hope Longwell-Grice, and the Deans.

Bi-Weekly Summer Leadership Meeting

On Tuesday morning, I attended the bi-weekly summer leadership meeting. The group reviewed the department chair roles and responsibilities they drafted out the last time. They agreed it captured most of the common things that chairs do. They were asked to complete when they do these activities and what support they use to complete each activity. Afterwards, they brainstormed the roles and responsibilities of program coordinators. They generated a list of activities for further review next time. To end the meeting, they compared calendars to determine when the next retention summit would be held – looks like sometime on Thursday, August 22nd. All department chairs and program coordinators are encouraged to attend this summit. Jeremy Page will be sending out details in the near future.

Staff Appreciation Luncheon

On Wednesday mid-day, we held the staff appreciation luncheon on the 5th floor catered by Charlie’s catering. Approximately 30 staff members attended the luncheon. I want to thank our staff for all they do year-round to support our students, faculty and leadership team. Keep up the great work!

2nd Annual Summer Picnic

On Thursday afternoon from 4:00 to 6:30 pm in the green space between Enderis and Chapman Halls, we held the 2nd annual summer picnic. We had approximately 150 people in attendance with music, face painting, and plastic balls for kids to play. This was a tremendous increase from last year when we had about 75 people in attendance. The Provost dropped by to welcome and intermingle with our guests. Everyone had a great time socializing and enjoying the food. I want to thank Rob Longwell-Grice and Carol Wacker for organizing the event. After talking to a number of alums, they want to be a part of the School of Education and they are very proud to be affiliated. Our job is to continue to engage them in meaningful and fun ways. Here are some pictures from the picnic.

If you haven’t been to the MKE Airport lately, here is a nice picture Rob Longwell-Grice shared with me of the School of Education “Be An Educator” campaign.
