This week I had regular meetings with Hope Longwell-Grice, Chancellor and Provost, and the Deans.

Board of Visitors Meeting

On Friday morning, I held a Board of Visitors meeting at Bader Philanthropies. I want to thank BOV member Jeff Rosen for hosting our meeting. I shared with the members an update on enrollment numbers and a budget update. I also brought Associate Dean Hope Longwell-Grice with me to introduce her and share what she does for the School of Education. After the meeting, Jeff Rosen gave us a tour of the facility. The new facility for Bader Philanthropies is beautiful and state of the art. It is in the heart of the Harambee neighborhood on MLK Blvd.

M3 Grow Your Own Dual Enrollment Meeting

Later Friday afternoon, Hope Longwell-Grice, Carol Wacker, and I drove to MATC for a meeting with MATC and MPS representatives to discuss dual enrollment tuition pricing options for students participating in the Grow Your Own program at Pulaski and James Madison High Schools. The discussions were very productive, and we ended the meeting with a clear common understanding of what needs to be done in the coming month to insure we can start something in the fall 2019.

SOE Educator Career Fair

On Saturday morning, I attended the 4th Annual SOE Educator Career Fair in the Union. It has grown every year with over 40 organizations participating in the fair this year. I want to thank Jeremy Page for spearheading this effort along with Hope Longwell-Grice, and the ACHEA graduate students for volunteering to support the event.

SOE Basketball Game Party

Later Saturday evening, we held our annual SOE basketball pre-game party at Panther Arena. There was plenty of food and good fellowship among everyone in attendance including 20 students and 3 teachers from MPS Milwaukee Excellence charter school. Alumna Lyndee Belanger accompanied the future Panthers to the game and we recognized them at the beginning of the game. Events like this are a great way to engage and recognize our faculty, staff, alumni, and friends and thank them for supporting the School of Education. I want to thank Carol Wacker for making the arrangements and Rob Longwell-Grice, Emma Eiden, and Molly Anne Wolk for supporting the event. Here are two pictures.

Beginning the week of March 11, Kerry and Molly will transition all room scheduling to the ROAR room scheduling system used by campus. The SOE internal Outlook calendars will no longer be used. The only impact of this transition is that reservation confirmations will look different—reservations for SOE rooms will be sent by email and will no longer appear on your Outlook calendar. Please continue to use the dashboard at to request reservations; please reserve rooms at least 48 hours in advance.
