What kind of financial aid do you have available?
UWM offers numerous types of aid, including fellowships and scholarships. Visit the Graduate School Types of Funding webpage to receive more information about types of funding.
Admitted doctoral students typically receive 1-2 years of funding in the form of Teaching Assistantships. Other forms of graduate assistantships may be available to doctoral and master’s students.
Students may also apply to UWM scholarships, including those offered by the School of Education. Scholarship applications are submitted through the UWM Scholarship Portal. The School of Education scholarship application is available October-December annually.
Are Master’s students eligible for graduate assistantships?
Typically MS students are not eligible for teaching assistantships due to university qualifications required for these positions. MS students may be eligible for other GA appointments on campus. Check the campus jobs site (information at the Career Planning and Resource Center) or our social media for such postings.
How do I apply for funding?
Eligible students can apply for funding for the Advanced Opportunity Program (AOP) or the other Graduate School Fellowships. Guidelines for the Advanced Opportunity Program (AOP) application process are found on the Graduate School’s website. Applications are due by the first Friday in January each year, so that the Ed Psych department can review and rank applicants. Each department is permitted to forward two applicants for consideration to the University-wide competition. We strongly encourage eligible students to apply, even if they are unsure of their admission status.
An annual call for Ed Psych GA positions will be sent out by email to all current and incoming students (those who have accepted admission) in early Spring. Interested candidates will complete an online application.
What are funding options for international students?
The Center for International Education provides some information about costs and aid for international students. International students are eligible for GA appointments based on the same criteria as all other applicants.
How much does it cost to attend UWM?
Visit the One Stop Billing & Payments webpage to view information on Current Tuition Rates and Fees.
Can I receive a fee waiver for the graduate application?
- All applicants are required to pay a non-refundable $75 application fee.
- If you are applying to a doctoral program and already hold a UWM master’s degree or will have completed a UWM master’s degree prior to starting the doctoral program, you do not need to pay the application fee again.
Individuals who register for, and attend, the Graduate School open house event(s) each fall are eligible to receive a fee waiver. Restrictions apply and the guidelines for receipt of the waiver can be found on the Graduate School Open House 2022 Application Fee Waiver (PDF).
