{"id":11406,"date":"2026-10-05T14:40:36","date_gmt":"2026-10-05T19:40:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/economics\/?p=11406"},"modified":"2026-10-05T14:40:38","modified_gmt":"2026-10-05T19:40:38","slug":"the-niho-fund-supports-department-research-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/economics\/the-niho-fund-supports-department-research-2\/","title":{"rendered":"The Niho Fund Supports Department Research!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department greatly benefited in 2025-2026 from the <strong>Niho Research Excellence Fund<\/strong>.&nbsp; Established and generously funded by <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/economics\/give\/yoshio-niho-excellence-fund\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Professor Emeritus Yoshio Niho<\/a>, it promotes Departmental research. It allows research expenditures and trips that would otherwise be impossible. We deeply thank Yoshio and all the many dedicated alums and friends who have contributed to the Fund. Here\u2019s what happened last year:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Scott Drewianka \u2013 Renewed AEA membership and renewed statistical software.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kundan Kishor \u2013 Presented at the <em>Federal Forecaster&#8217;s Conference<\/em> in Washington DC and presented at the <em>International Symposium of Forecasters<\/em> in Montreal, Canada<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Itziar Lazkano \u2013 Attended the H<em>eartland Environmental &amp; Resource Workshop<\/em>. Hired a PhD student for research assistance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Matthew McGinty &#8211; Presented at the <em>World Congress of Environmental and Resource Economists<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Antu Murshid &#8211; Hired a PhD student for research assistance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rebecca Neumann \u2013Presented research at the <em>Midwest Economic Association Conference<\/em> in Chicago and hired a PhD student for research assistance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>James Peoples &#8211; Purchased statistical software\u00a0 and a new desktop computer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We would love to have your support of the&nbsp;<strong>Yoshio Niho Excellence Fund (#4626)<\/strong>&nbsp;as we work to raise the research profile of the department.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.give.uwm.edu\/s\/1902\/m19\/home-dev.aspx?gid=3&amp;pgid=61\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Give here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Department greatly benefited in 2025-2026 from the Niho Research Excellence Fund.&nbsp; Established and generously funded by Professor Emeritus Yoshio Niho, it promotes Departmental research.
