Space radiation can have an influence on the stability drugs and render them ineffective. We would like to investigate if the chemical composition of MIDD0301 will be altered through space travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"702\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/drug-discovery\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/390\/2024\/10\/scheme-copy.jpg\" alt=\"Diagram showing radiation effects on drug compound MIDD0301, analyzed by NMR, MS, and HPLC\" class=\"wp-image-1150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/drug-discovery\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/390\/2024\/10\/scheme-copy.jpg 702w, https:\/\/uwm.edu\/drug-discovery\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/390\/2024\/10\/scheme-copy-300x180.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 702px) 100vw, 702px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Solid MIDD0301 was placed in a plastic tube and sealed. The tube was placed into a cube that fit into a dedicated space of the rocket. Students were invited to be part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/cubesinspace.com\/flightfest2024.html\">Flightfest<\/a> at Chincoteague Island, Virginia to see MIDD0301 lifting off into space using a Sounding Rocket-10 at the <a href=\"http:\/\/nasa.gov\/wallops\/\">NASA&#8217;s Wallops Flight Facility<\/a>. After the rocket return to earth, the cube with MIDD0301 was send back to Milwaukee for chemical analysis. Therefore, several student visited UWM on September 19th. The purity and mass identification was carried out at SAILARC, the analytical laboratory of the MIDD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/drug-discovery\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/390\/2024\/01\/Mass-spec-analysis.jpg\" alt=\"Students gathered around a mass spectrometer during a laboratory demonstration\" class=\"wp-image-1151\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/drug-discovery\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/390\/2024\/01\/Mass-spec-analysis.jpg 750w, https:\/\/uwm.edu\/drug-discovery\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/390\/2024\/01\/Mass-spec-analysis-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The test concluded that no degradation occurred by space radiation and was still 98% pure. The mass analysis showed also no decomposition.
