Three new MIDD members

We are delighted to announce that the MIDD has gained three new members with diverse scientific backgrounds.

Karyn Frick holds the rank of Distinguished Professor in the UWM Psychology Department and is the Neuroscience Area Chair. Her NIH-supported work is focused on hormones, aging, and environmental factors affect hippocampal function and hippocampal-dependent memory. Dr. Frick is also the CSO of Estrigenix, a UWM startup company that develops a new product for hot flashes and downstream indications such as dementia. Sonia Bardy from UWM Biological Science Department studies the chemotaxis systems within Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and seek to elucidate how protein localization is correlated to function. She is planning to apply the knowledge gained to develop new antibiotics. Andy Pacheco from UWM Chemistry and Biochemistry Department is investigating metalloenzymes with multiple redox-active centers and has been supported by the NSF for many years. He is currently developing new treatments for tuberculosis targeting heme proteins of M. Tuberculosis.
