Bio

Erika Scherer is currently a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, working her way towards a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Design and Visual Communication

While at UW-Milwaukee, Erika interned at the Kohls Design It! Lab found inside Discovery World in Milwaukee. Here, she developed skills in serving the public, working with children, designing a hands-on project for families, and making poster designs for the public and employees of the museum. She currently works at the design output lab, where learning about print production and teaching beginning students about the essential Adobe programs is all part of her job. She has experience in T-shirt design, logo design, magazines, motion graphics, brochures, and web design. Some other skills she prides herself on are organization, empathy, time management, illustration, and hands-on crafting.

In her free time, she loves to work with animals, come up with new and exciting recipes, and design ideas for children’s books. After graduation in spring, she hopes to continue pursuing design in her career, whether that means staying in Wisconsin or travelling to a different part of the world.

Description

When someone is in recovering from an alcohol addiction, they are told to drop their group of friends for people who are better influences on their sobriety – but are never told how to do it. Able is an application that focuses on resolving the isolation that many recovering alcoholics feel, and keeps them motivated through providing meaningful rewards. Able also includes moderated chat rooms and an integrated buddy system that holds users accountable for supporting each other.

Mission

Able provides a solid online support system for those who feel alone in achieving sobriety from alcohol, while giving meaningful rewards for staying sober.

Vision

Able’s vision is to be a well-rounded safe space for those who feel like they cannot express themselves in a public setting.
