UWM to increase COVID-19 testing for students and employees

Beginning with the start of spring semester Jan. 25, UWM is going to ramp up COVID-19 testing for students, faculty and staff. For Milwaukee students and staff:
  • Students living on campus will need to be tested once a week, an increase from previous requirements to be tested every other week.
  • Employees and off-campus students who are on campus at least once per week will now need to be tested every two weeks. Previously, testing was optional for most employees.
Employees working remotely and students who are taking classes exclusively online will not be required to get tested, although they can get a test if they want.

Information will be forthcoming for Waukesha and Washington County students, faculty and staff.
The increased testing effort is aimed at extending the success UWM has had with limiting the spread of COVID-19. The university has generally fared better than the surrounding community, with positivity rates staying mostly below 3%.
Similar testing requirements are being implemented across the UW System.
