The priority deadline to apply for an emergency grant through the federal CARES Act is May 12.
Applications submitted after that will be considered on a rolling basis until funds run out. But because funding is limited, students are strongly urged to apply by May 12.
Grants are intended to help students who have been financially impacted by the disruption of campus operations to pay for expenses such as food, housing, course materials, laptops and technology, health care and child care. The CARES Act provides almost $8.5 million to be distributed to UWM students.
Students must have completed the FAFSA to be eligible for CARES Act funding, so do that first if you haven’t already.
More information, including a link to the application, can be found on the Dean of Students website. The application form can be completed in just a few minutes.
