With graduation ceremonies being held online, when will I receive my diploma?

January 14, 2021

UWM held a virtual celebration for Fall 2020 graduates on Sunday, Dec. 20. This should not affect the mailing of diplomas.

Diplomas are mailed to the students’s U.S. mailing address listed on PAWS, or they may be picked up in person on campus. (Diplomas typically are ready to be picked up at UWM about eight to 10 weeks after the ceremony.) The name on the diploma will match how it appears in PAWS unless a change is requested on a Diploma Name Request form.

  • For more information on receiving your associate or bachelor’s diploma, please go to this UWM Graduation website.
  • For more information on receiving your master’s or doctoral diploma, please go to this Graduate School website.

Requesting a diploma cover

Diploma covers will be automatically sent to everyone who participates in the virtual ceremony. If a graduate does not plan to participate but would still like a diploma cover in the mail, please contact the Registrar’s Office to request one via phone at 414-229-3800 or the online contact form.

UWM does not expect the posting of degrees to be delayed due to the pandemic. Please note it typically takes some time for degrees to be posted and appear on  student’a record, depending on the school or college. It could take six to eight weeks or as long as three months after the final grade run. Log into the Student Center on PAWS to check if the degree has been posted.

Students who need proof of a past graduation date can also submit a request for graduation verification.
