UW System Administration recently amended the interim UW System COVID-19 Leave Policy to include student employees. The opportunities to use COVID-19 leave are limited by the factors outlined in the UW System policy. Any student employee who has missed time from work due to the COVID-19 pandemic since Aug. 1, 2020, is encouraged to read the policy to see if you qualify.
The time span for when a student employee might be eligible for COVID-19 leave is Aug. 1, 2020 to Dec. 31, 2020. That means that student employees who missed work time since Aug. 1, 2020 due to the criteria outlined in the UW System policy may apply for COVID-19 leave. It also means that a student employee who might miss work from now through Dec. 31, 2020 for reasons as described in the policy may apply for COVID-19 leave.
The total amount of COVID-19 leave a student employee is eligible for is prorated to the amount of hours the student typically works in a two-week pay period, up to a maximum of 80 hours.
To apply for COVID leave, a student employee should complete the Student FFCRA Leave Request form found at this UWM Student Employees website and email the form to the HR Business Partner/Prep assigned to the UWM school/college/division for which you work. An HR Business Partner/Prep contact directory can be found at this Human Resources website, or ask the office of your dean/division head of the school/college/division for which you work to provide you with the right contact. Please also submit any questions to your HR Business Partner/Prep.
