Frequently Asked Questions

Am I eligible to apply for this program?

Yes, if you major or intend to major in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) field and you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. This program provides mentoring and support services for full-time, undergraduate students.

What is considered as a STEM major?

A “STEM major” refers to a college degree program that generally falls under the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics categories. For more information about specific degree programs, please contact our program at stem-inspire@uwm.edu.

What do I need to submit for this application?

Please read the cover letter first and browse the sample application form sent to you by email.  Required application materials include the online application form, a short essay, an unofficial transcript, and a recommendation letter.  The application form, transcript upload, and short essay are part of the online survey form. All applicants must upload a copy of their unofficial transcript and provide the name of a recommender (e.g., professor or advisor in their STEM major) familiar with their academic history and their accomplishments as a STEM student in WiscAMP (or other organization on campus) as well as their aptitude and passion to succeed as a STEM major.

I am new to UWM, how do I generate an unofficial transcript?

With an active UWM email address, you can request one free electronic copy of your unofficial transcript per day in PAWS.  Here are the steps: 1) log in to PAWS; 2) under the Academics header, click on the drop-down menu and select “Transcript: View Unofficial,” then click the arrow button; 3) select the “Undergraduate Transcript” and default “Output Destination Type” (email), then click the “Submit Transcript Request” button; 4) a pdf copy will be delivered to your UWM email address immediately.

Can I mail in or drop off my application materials instead?

No, application materials are to be submitted electronically by July 20, 2024, at 11:59 pm.  However, if you are having difficulty and need an alternative submission method, please email stem-inspire@uwm.edu.
