SUMMARY:STEM Education Mentorship Match
DESCRIPTION:A partnership with the WiscAMP STEM-Inspire Program at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee\, “The Mentorship Match” is a unique mentorship experience for local youth\, mirroring what young professionals encounter in their careers.\nThrough short\, 15-minute rotations\, high school students connect with an esteemed group of experienced mentors offering expertise in various STEAM-related fields. Participating students will be split into cohorts based on academic interests and encouraged to share their education and career goals with their group. The combination of peer group interaction and candid feedback will foster an engaging opportunity for future leaders to articulate their aspirations and set clear goals without fear of ridicule or judgment. \n  \nInitiative Purpose and Goals: Provide high school students interested in pursuing STEAM-related careers\, exposure to a collegiate environment\, meaningful networking with mentors/professionals/academics\, and an opportunity to build relationships and support networks with like-minded students at other high schools. \nBlack History Month event focus: Focus on the role of artificial intelligence or “AI” specifically in communities of color using the film CODED BIAS. The conversation may/can include such topics as “What is AI?”\, “How do you interact with it every day?” and “What are the implications of AI\, both good and bad?” Given the context of the film\, the conversation may also include issues of equity and the implications of AI on specific communities (e.g.\, who is creating the algorithms\, how is it being implemented\, etc.).
