With the decreasing need of big box stores across the country, people are beginning to embrace shared marketplaces and connection as a solution to these empty retailers. In 2019 the Granville BID District agreed to lease a 22,000-square-foot former Joann Fabrics, to create the Granville Connection. While providing a community space for small business owners to sell their products, it would also provide an office co-working space, as well as an adaptable stage area for events and performances to draw people to the neighborhood.
