Summer 2023<\/h4>\n

$1000 stipends available for <\/strong><\/em>
\nMilwaukee Public Schools teachers and librarians\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

To support more diverse books in classrooms and libraries and integration of diverse books in the curriculum, the UWM Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS)<\/strong> will award $1000 summer stipends to five Milwaukee Public Schools teachers and librarians (any related subject area, any level) to spend one week (M-F, flexible) exploring children\u2019s and young adult book collections in the UWM Libraries Curriculum Collection<\/strong> and ways to connect the books to their classrooms\/libraries. Selected Fellows will be responsible for creation of a shareable deliverable that fits their own teaching\/library needs. Individual and team applications welcome.<\/p>\n

Book Collections:<\/h4>\n

Am\u00e9ricas Award Collection<\/strong><\/a>
\nThe Am\u00e9ricas Award commends U.S. published children\u2019s and young adult books that portray Latin America, the Caribbean, or Latinx in the United States, and provides teachers with recommendations for classroom use.\u00a0\u00a0 Learn more about the Am\u00e9ricas Award here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Pura Belpr\u00e9 Collection<\/strong><\/a>
\nOutstanding books for children and youth that celebrate the Latino cultural experience written or illustrated by book creators of Latinx heritage.\u00a0 Learn more about the Pura Belpr\u00e9 Award here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

International Children\u2019s and Young Adult Literature Collection<\/strong><\/a>
\nInitiated in 2021, the collection\u00a0highlights experiences from outside of the United States through literature, both in original languages and in translation.\u00a0 Learn more about the ICYAL here<\/a>.<\/p>\n
