“\u201cYou Brought Us Here\u201d: The Plight of Japanese Peruvians in World War II U.S. Incarceration”<\/i>, given by\u00a0Dr. Natasha Varner<\/a>\u00a0on Wednesday, April 20 (4pm Central) via Zoom, will be the second event in\u00a0a series on\u00a0Japanese Latin Americans during WWII.\u00a0Click here to\u00a0register<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0click here to find out more<\/a>\u00a0about the series and the\u00a0related exhibit at the Jewish Museum of Milwaukee<\/a>.<\/div>\n

To support this lecture series, we’re offering coordinated\u00a0resources. Dr. Varner is the\u00a0Communications and Public Engagement Director of\u00a0Densho<\/a>, an organization that is dedicated to “preserving Japanese American stories of the past for the generations of tomorrow.” This site has a variety resources related to the Japanese Peruvian experience, including\u00a033 oral history segments<\/a>, the\u00a0handwritten autobiography<\/a>\u00a0of Japanese Peruvian Arthur Yakabi, and\u00a0over 200 still images<\/a>.

TIME has a piece from 2019 discussing<\/a>\u00a0how Japanese Latin Americans released from internment camps in the US were considered “illegal aliens” despite their forced removal from their homes into US camps. A case study titled “U.S. Disregard for International Law in the World War II Internment of Japanese Peruvians”\u00a0from Boston College is available here<\/a>.\u00a0Finally, there is a 40-minute video entitled\u00a0“The Continuing Fight for Justice for Japanese Latin Americans”\u00a0which is courtesy of\u00a0Campaign for Justice<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Japanese Peruvian Oral History Project<\/a>.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
