Latinx Heritage Month began on September 15th and runs through October 15th. In this spirit, we want to offer resources on local Latinx communities of both past and present.\u00a0Regarding communities in the greater Wisconsin area,\u00a0Voces de la Frontera<\/a>\u00a0has a project from 2020 called\u00a0La Tierra del Queso<\/a>\u00a0(The Land of Cheese), focusing on Latinx dairy workers in the state that includes a short film talking to some of the workers.\u00a0PBS Wisconsin<\/a>\u00a0released an hour-long film called “Latino Wisconsin” in February, which is available\u00a0to stream\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Regarding communities in Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel\u00a0has a piece from 2018<\/a>\u00a0about the history of Latinx activism in Milwaukee. WUWM\u00a0has a piece from April<\/a>\u00a0discussing the lack of historically designated landmarks for the Milwaukee Latinx community, and\u00a0a piece from this month<\/a>\u00a0about the importance of Latinx communities in our history,\u00a0among other articles<\/a>\u00a0for Latinx Heritage Month.\u00a0WisCONTEXT<\/a>\u00a0hosts a lecture from Marquette’s\u00a0Dr. Sergio Gonz\u00e1lez<\/a>\u00a0(also mentioned in an above WUWM article)\u00a0called\u00a0“Milwaukee’s First Mexican Community.”<\/a>\u00a0Gonz\u00e1lez additionally works with the\u00a0Wisconsin Latinx History Collective<\/a>, which\u00a0collects the oral histories<\/a>\u00a0of Latinx communities across Wisconsin.
