Collection, 2<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">nd<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> floor) as we officially celebrate the opening of our new collection of international children\u2019s and young adult literature.\u00a0 Browse the books, share your ideas for using the collection, and meet <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">world-renowned Brazilian illustrator, Roger Mello<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">!<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">About UWM Libraries International Children\u2019s and Young Adult Literature Collection<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Initiated in 2021, UWM\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wisconsin-uwm.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/discovery\/collectionDiscovery?vid=01UWI_ML:MIL&amp;collectionId=81321514550002124&amp;sortItemsBy=title\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">new collection of international children\u2019s and young adult books<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> highlights experiences from outside of the United States through literature, both in original languages and in translation.\u00a0 The growing collection will showcase the richness of children\u2019s literature around the world, as well as the wide and often disparate range of publishing and access, where reading may be for pleasure, for literacy, or where books in local languages are scarce or non-existent.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">The collection is also intended as a resource for the local immigrant and refugee communities in Milwaukee and southeastern Wisconsin.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The Curriculum Collection will house two copies of each title, one in a research collection, and another available for lending.\u00a0 At present, represented languages include: Spanish, English, Turkish, Ukrainian, Portuguese, Japanese, French, Korean and Greek, with forthcoming purchases including Arabic, Swahili, Xhosa, Zulu, Afrikaans, Burmese, Karen, Farsi, Chinese, Somali, Hmong, Swedish, German, Italian, Slovenian, Polish\u201425 languages and counting!\u00a0 Watch the ICYAL book collection <\/span><a Google Map.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">To complement the collection, stay tuned for engaging programming about international children\u2019s books for teachers, students, librarians, parents, and the community.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">About Roger Mello<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The immensely talented illustrator and author, <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Roger Mello (Brazil)<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, brings both joy and social criticism into his diverse works for children.\u00a0 His books, unique in their use of color and design, engage the reader\u2019s imagination.\u00a0\u00a0 In 2014, Mello\u2019s remarkable body of work was recognized with the Hans Christian Andersen Award for Illustration, presented by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY).\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 For a wonderful introduction to Roger Mello, see this <\/span><a
