Research and Teaching Awards<\/span><\/p>\n

Award amounts are subject to annual approval by the Executive Committee; it is expected that prizes will be awarded every year in all categories where materials have been submitted for presentation at the conference except when compelling reasons can be shown for not doing so. Only conference participants are eligible to submit materials for consideration.<\/p>\n

Every effort will be made by the Awards Committee to announce the winners at the annual meeting. Those individuals who want their work considered should submit it to the Awards Committee (via the Program Chair, (msheehan001@csbsju.edu<\/a>) by April 2, 2021<\/strong> as a Word or pdf attachment.<\/p>\n

The following awards are available:<\/em><\/p>\n

The Raquel Kersten Professional Research Award<\/strong>
\nA $200 award may be given to a faculty member for a research work dealing with Latin American Studies in any relevant academic area. Papers will be judged first, as to their contribution to new knowledge of Latin America, secondly, on the thoroughness and appropriateness of research and methodology, and thirdly, on the style or form of presentation. Papers may be submitted in English, Spanish, or Portuguese and must be unpublished when submitted.<\/p>\n

The Andrew Kirchmeier Teaching Award<\/strong>
\nA $200 award may be given for an effort in the field of teaching Latin American Studies. This effort can entail the development of media, curriculum materials, theoretical or practical papers, or any other project designed to improve the teaching of Latin American Studies.\u00a0Projects may be directed towards the primary, secondary or university level, or for the education of the general public.<\/p>\n

Graduate Student Research Award<\/strong>
\nA $200 award may be given to a student currently enrolled in a graduate program for a research work dealing with Latin American Studies in any relevant academic area. Dissertation chapters are welcome. Papers will be judged on the same basis as the professional research award.<\/p>\n

Undergraduate Student Research Award<\/strong>
\nA $200 award may be given to a research paper completed by an undergraduate student. Papers will be judged on the same basis as the professional research award.<\/p>\n

Collaborative Research Award<\/strong>
\nA $300 award may be given to a research paper completed collaboratively between a faculty member and a student (undergraduate or graduate). Papers will be judged on the same basis as the professional research award.<\/p>\n

Award of Merit<\/h2>\n

NCCLA’s Award of Merit is offered to individuals and\/or organizations in the various areas of journalism, business, government, education, and the arts and humanities for outstanding achievement in bringing to the general public a greater awareness of the nations, peoples and cultures of Latin America.<\/p>\n

Please let us have your recommendations for this award in 50 words or less. Additional information may be requested regarding your nominee by the judges. Nominations should be sent to Aimee Orndorf at aorndorf@uwm.edu<\/a><\/p>\n

NOTE: The nomination deadline for the Award of Merit is April 2, 2021<\/b>.<\/p>\n
