Hidden History: WWII Rendition of Japanese Latin Americans

The Asian/Pacific Bar Association of Sacramento Law Foundation is hosting a virtual speaking event on May 19, 2021, on the topic of “the long-hidden WWII program of kidnapping, indefinite incarceration, and hostage exchange of Japanese Latin Americans. Over 2,200 immigrant residents and citizens of Japanese ancestry from 13 Latin American countries were imprisoned in US concentration camps, with over 800 people deported to Japan for hostage exchanges.” Please visit this link for more information.

A film from Peek Media, Hidden Internment: The Art Shibayama Story, may be a good introduction point to the topic being discussed in May. Running 26 minutes, the short documentary film from 2004 is available in its entirety on YouTube, linked here.
