Children’s Author, Jorge Argueta

In October CLACS hosted children’s book author Jorge Argueta.  Argueta, a Salvadoran-born poet, is the author of several bilingual children books including: Somos com las NubesTalking to Mother EarthA Movie in my Pillow, and Alfredito Flies Home.

Argueta’s work has consistently been recognized. Such honors include the Américas Award, Bank Street Children’s Library Book of the Year, and Best Illustrated Children’s Book of the Year. In addition, he is a San Francisco Library Poet Laureate.

While in Milwaukee, Argueta visited Riley Elementary School (MPS) and presented to over 50 first-fifth graders.  He also spoke in UWM’s Curriculum Collection, UWM Libraries and, in a collaboration with Milwaukee Public Library, gave a presentation at the newly opened Mitchell Street Library.
