Expand the sections below for more information on Health Insurance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong>&nbsp;The mandatory health insurance coverage for international students meets the federal government Affordable Care Act (ACA) requirements and the University of Wisconsin System Policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion uwm-p-accordion--icon-left-circle\" data-accordion-prefix-classes=\"uwm\" data-accordion-cool-selectors=\"1\"><button class=\"uwm-p-accordion--toggle-button size-p-md\">Expand All<\/button>\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Students<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>International students who register&nbsp;for classes are automatically enrolled in the UWM international student health insurance policy (which is approved by the University of Wisconsin System). Select UW-Milwaukee if requested &amp; use your UWM credentials to login.&nbsp;Click&nbsp;<strong>Menu<\/strong>, go to&nbsp;<strong>Benefits and Pay<\/strong>&nbsp;&amp; then scroll down to&nbsp;<strong>Suggested Links.<\/strong>&nbsp;Click on&nbsp;<strong>My Insurance Benefits,&nbsp;<\/strong>which will then take you to the ETF website. Log in to the ETF website (create an account if needed). Click&nbsp;<strong>Go to My Insurance Benefits&nbsp;<\/strong>&amp; then click&nbsp;<strong>Next.&nbsp;<\/strong>Take a screenshot of the page that appears being sure that your name &amp; the insurance carrier name is visible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Those students with a&nbsp;<strong>continuing<\/strong>&nbsp;appointment must have the current term\u2019s contract on file with ISSS, an insurance card (back &amp; front)&nbsp;<strong>AND<\/strong>&nbsp;the benefit information as instructed above from Workday.&nbsp;<strong>BOTH a card &amp; benefits info would be needed<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>if your insurance card doesn\u2019t have an issue\/effective date AFTER&nbsp;August 1, 2025<\/strong>, for submission.&nbsp;You can also log into your carrier website &amp; provide insurance documentation from there with a print date within 15 days of submission to ISSS Connect.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>All students&nbsp;<\/strong>with a Graduate appointment (assistantship\/fellowship\/award) must have a current term\u2019s contract for submission to ISSS Connect.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Login to your&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.isssconnect.uwm.edu\/index.cfm?FuseAction=Security.AngLogin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ISSS Connect portal<\/a>&nbsp;and complete the Assistantship&nbsp;Insurance Information Form by&nbsp;uploading and submitting&nbsp;the appropriate documents as specified above.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>After&nbsp;you complete those steps, the terms\u2019 full health insurance charges will be removed from your PAWS account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please do note that with the submission of the web form, the appropriate health insurance documentation as specified above and having a current Graduate appointment contract on file you are certifying that you have health insurance coverage and ISSS has no further information on your health insurance coverage or plan and you should reach out to the&nbsp;<u><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/hr\/benefits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Benefits office<\/a><\/u>&nbsp;or your health insurance carrier for further information.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Students Sponsored by Home-Government or Other Education Program<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>If your home government or another agency is sponsoring your education and also providing you with health insurance benefits for the duration of your study, please submit the documentation of your sponsorship and health insurance to&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:chuewitt@uwm.edu?subject=Sponsorship%20%26%20Health%20Insurance\">Che Huewitt<\/a>.&nbsp;<strong>Action is required on your part<\/strong>&nbsp;because if you do nothing, you will be enrolled in the general UWM international student health insurance policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A waiver for&nbsp;your required participation in the UWM international student health insurance policy is not automatically granted. Your documentation will be reviewed, and if your health insurance meets the UW System requirements for international student health care coverage, we will waive the requirement of your enrollment in the UWM international student health insurance policy.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Students Who Have an F-1 or J-1 Visa and who Receive Health Care Insurance from U.S. Employment (CPT\/OPT\/Academic Training, a Spouse or Parent&#8217;s Employment)<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you are on an F-1 or J-1 visa and you have health insurance from&nbsp;<strong>your<\/strong>&nbsp;U.S. employment (CPT\/OPT\/Academic Training) for this term, you will need appropriate work authorization for the term, which will be verified. Without the appropriate work authorization, you will be enrolled in the general UWM international student health insurance policy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you have health insurance from&nbsp;<strong>any<\/strong>&nbsp;U.S. employment (yours, your spouse or parent&#8217;s) you should have an insurance card issued in the last twelve months and\/or any documentation pertaining to your plan&#8217;s effective and termination dates or policy terms, which could include a recent benefits application or confirmation of enrollment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Log in to your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isssconnect.uwm.edu\/index.cfm?FuseAction=Security.AngLogin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ISSS Connect portal<\/a> and complete the Assistantship&nbsp;Insurance Information Form&nbsp;by&nbsp;uploading and submitting&nbsp;the appropriate documents as specified above.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A waiver&nbsp;for&nbsp;your required participation in the UWM international student health insurance policy is not automatically granted. Your documentation will be reviewed, and if your health insurance meets the UW System requirements for international student health care coverage the terms\u2019 full health insurance charges will be waived.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\"><strong>Graduated Students Needing Health Insurance Prior to OPT\/AT<\/strong><\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>Students on an F-1 or J-1 visa that have graduated from UWM&nbsp;<em>and<\/em>&nbsp;applied to USCIS for OPT authorization or have been approved for Academic Training authorization may be eligible to self-enroll for health insurance coverage through their OPT\/AT authorization start date or OPT\/AT health insurance effective date. Gallagher\/Wellfleet and CISI offer self-enrollment plans; see the enrollment information below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NOTE: Students who enroll in coursework at UWM after self-enrolling in one of the plans below will be enrolled in the Wellfleet Student Health Insurance Plan (WSHIP). You will have to work with Gallagher\/Wellfleet or CISI directly to request a refund of the monies you paid during your self-enrollment, if possible.
