{"id":1050,"date":"2025-02-17T15:01:04","date_gmt":"2025-02-17T21:01:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/chancellor\/?p=1050"},"modified":"2026-03-02T15:03:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T21:03:07","slug":"an-update-on-federal-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/chancellor\/an-update-on-federal-action\/","title":{"rendered":"An update on federal action"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On Friday evening, the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights (OCR) issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/media\/document\/dear-colleague-letter-sffa-v-harvard-109506.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dear Colleague Letter (PDF)<\/a> providing its interpretation of the U.S. Supreme Court\u2019s 2023 decision in <em>Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA) v. Harvard<\/em>, which prohibits race-conscious decisions in college admissions. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UWM has already ensured its compliance with the Harvard case. We will now carefully review the scope and breadth of this Dear Colleague Letter, along with any additional guidance to follow. As we do so, we&#8217;ll work closely with employees and students if any changes are necessary.
