The Impact of Today’s Supreme Court Ruling

Faculty, Staff and Students,

You’ve likely read or heard the news about the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, overturning Roe v. Wade. I know many of you are upset by this decision. I also know there are many of you who celebrate it. Whatever your viewpoint, I respect it, and I hope you will respect each other in this moment. It is my firm belief that universities, including and especially UWM, must be a place where civil discourse can lead up to and follow decisions that impact our lives.

I also think it is important for you to know this decision will not affect UWM’s health care services for students. The Student Health and Wellness Center will continue to provide contraception and women’s health services. It does not, and has never, performed abortions.

For those who have questions or concerns about the court’s decision, here are some places to turn to for support, both on campus and virtually:

As always, UWM’s goal is to support our students both in and out of the classroom. Supporting students’ physical and mental health through our medical services and a network of mental and emotional health care continues to be a top priority.

Best regards,

Mark A. Mone, PhD
