Health Department Approves UWM Reopening Plan

Dear Faculty and Staff,

I am pleased to report that UWM’s reopening plan has been approved by the City of Milwaukee Health Department. As many of you know, the Health Department recently enacted more restrictive guidelines for when in-person classes may resume. We are the first college or university in Milwaukee to receive permission from the Health Department to move forward with a combination of in-person and online instruction.

I’d like to thank City of Milwaukee leaders, including Mayor Tom Barrett, Milwaukee Health Commissioner Jeanette Kowalik and her team of health professionals, as well as UW System President Tommy Thompson for working collaboratively with us on this issue. We share a common goal of doing everything we can to protect the health and well-being of our students, faculty and staff while still meeting students’ educational needs.

I’m pleased that we will be able to continue moving forward with our plans for the fall semester. Our reopening plan is based on the Emergency Operations Center Report and detailed in hundreds of FAQs on our reopening website. Please visit that website for more information on what the fall will look like at UWM.

Best regards,
