Chancellor’s Updates: UWM’s Commitment to Inclusiveness

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students,

In higher education today we face change and uncertainty, which can be unsettling. While UWM will continue to evolve, what will not change – for faculty, staff and students who are part of our global and diverse community – is our commitment to safety and inclusiveness. We all belong here

We are the most diverse campus in the UW System and this is one of our greatest strengths. No matter our socioeconomic backgrounds, cultures, race, gender, ethnicity, political beliefs, education, faith, sexual orientation, age, or national origin – we are unified by being part of a learning community. We are committed to our Guiding Values which include:

  • Diversity in all of its definitions, including who we are, how we think, and what we do.
  • A caring, compassionate, and collegial community characterized by mutual respect and safety.

Resources and support are available to students through our many Centers and Institutes, including our Multicultural Student Centers. Norris Health Center also provides counseling services for students. Faculty and staff in need of assistance may contact our Employee Assistance Program online or by calling (800) 634-6433.

As we continue to face changes, uncertainty and opportunities, I encourage us all to do so with open hearts and minds, civility and a sense of unity. Remember, we all came here on different paths, from different places. I ask all of us to seek out that which brings and keeps us together–common values around student education, learning, research, and community–and share and celebrate our differences.

Best regards,

Mark A. Mone
