Chancellor’s Update: 2030 Implementation Team

Dear Faculty and Staff,

I am delighted to announce the official launch of the 2030 Implementation Team, a group that will advance the recommendations of the 2030+ Think Tank.

After discussions throughout 2019-20, the 2030+ Think Tank made thoughtful recommendations on how UWM could chart a course for future success. Their report is available here.

Given the pandemic, the need to plan UWM’s future is even more critical. Provost Britz and I have accepted the Think Tank recommendations and are now asking a new group, the 2030 Implementation Team, to propose specific actions to enact four prioritized recommendations, summarized here:

  • Make a full-scale revision of the undergraduate student academic experience
  • Make UWM a radically welcoming and engaging institution for all students
  • Conduct top-tier research
  • Realign our College and School structure and academic program array

Distinguished Professor and University Committee Chair Kathy Dolan and Vice Provost of Research Mark Harris will co-lead this work, along with seven other co-chairs and over 50 members that include shared governance representatives, faculty, staff and students. See the charge for the 2030 Implementation Team here.

Membership of the four work groups is being finalized so please look for details soon on the 2030 web site, which will house meeting agendas, meeting notes and other resources. The groups’ recommendations will be complete in January. We will implement ideas quickly, where possible, and will honor policies and procedures and include governance in enacting next steps. Specifically, on the college, school and program realignment, the work done in the coming months will be at a high level, with details to be subsequently examined more closely.

Provost Britz and I extend our sincere thanks to all participating in the 2030 Implementation Team. The efforts will be significant and invaluable to UWM’s sustainable future.

Best regards,
Mark A. Mone
