Chancellor’s Update: Finding Strength in the Wake of Las Vegas

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students,

Our hearts go out to all of those who are impacted by the horrific mass shooting in Las Vegas last night. UW-Milwaukee and the nation mourn the senseless loss of lives and injuries. Flags on campus will be at half-staff through Friday to show our solidarity and respect.

Tragic events we have witnessed throughout this year and now in Las Vegas remind us of the importance to be strong and steadfast in our mission to care and support our entire campus community.

We know that some of our students are from the Las Vegas area and have family and friends there, so this tragedy hits home. Our campus has several resources for students, faculty and staff in need of help. Counseling services for students are available through our Norris Health Center. Faculty and staff in need of assistance may contact ourEmployee Assistance Program online or by calling (800) 634-6433. There also are a number of mental health resources available to all members of the campus community.

I remain deeply concerned about the well-being of our students, faculty, staff and visitors. Please make use of the support and resources to process recent events, as needed.

Best regards,

Mark A. Mone
