SUMMARY:Wild Knowing: The Role of the Arts in Ecolological Culture
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, September 18\, 3:00-5:00 PM\n\n\n\nAmerican Geographical Society Library\,Third Floor East Wing\, Golda Meir Library\, 2311 East Hartford Ave.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA performance presentation by J. Philip Grygny\, PhD\n\n\n\nAldo Leopold\, one of the founders of modern ecology\, wrote that we should not see the land as a thing that belongs to us\, but as a community to which we belong. How could such a radical shift come about in our tech-driven world? \n\n\n\nThis 40-minute presentation uses stories\, sound\, and vivid imagery to explore what an ecological culture might look like\, and how we can bring the power of the arts to deepen our relationship with nature. The program invites educators\, artists\, and anyone with a passion for nature to explore embodied\, intuitive practices for ecological education\, enrichment\, wellness\, and advocacy.    \n\n\n\nThe presentation will be followed by a 60-minute workshop in various practices to relax your body\, open your senses\, and refresh your friendship with the living world. \n\n\n\nTo learn more about performance ecology and the Wild Knowing project\, visit WildKnowing.org. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJ. Philip Grygny is an independent\, interdisciplinary artist and scholar interested in the intersections of art\, science\, nature\, and culture. In 2017\, he founded the Performance Ecology Project to explore how artistic and contemplative practices can deepen our relationship with the living world. His activities include The Performance Ecology Project (2017)\, Adventures in the Deep World (2019)\, and A Walk on the Wild Side (2024).
