Downer Ave.\n\n\n\nFree & open to the public; refreshments will be served\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin the Center for 21st Century Studies (C21) on Thursday\, September 17 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM for our annual open house\, plus a bonus digital archive launch party.  \n\n\n\nGet to know C21 fellows\, staff\, & collaborators. Contribute to an art project about collective action. Learn more about this year’s programming theme\, Slow Action\, and our upcoming public events. Peruse the our new digital archive for C21’s Story Cart project\, featuring hundreds of interviews from everyday Milwaukeeans about food access\, the US voting system\, and the attention economy. Ask us questions about our call for graduate-led programming. Sign up for C21’s Human Club to join monthly outings to human-friendly humanities events. Enjoy great company and some delicious snacks on us. \n\n\n\nThis event is free and open to the public.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNot familiar with UWM’s campus? \n\n\n\nWe recommend parking in the UWM Student Union parking garage or the Lubar Business parking garage\, which are $3 for the first hour\, then $1 for each additional hour. The Zelazo Surface Lot offers limited free parking after 3PM. SUMMARY:Wild Knowing: The Role of the Arts in Ecolological Culture
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, September 18\, 3:00-5:00 PM\n\n\n\nAmerican Geographical Society Library\,Third Floor East Wing\, Golda Meir Library\, 2311 East Hartford Ave.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA performance presentation by J. Philip Grygny\, PhD\n\n\n\nAldo Leopold\, one of the founders of modern ecology\, wrote that we should not see the land as a thing that belongs to us\, but as a community to which we belong. How could such a radical shift come about in our tech-driven world? \n\n\n\nThis 40-minute presentation uses stories\, sound\, and vivid imagery to explore what an ecological culture might look like\, and how we can bring the power of the arts to deepen our relationship with nature. The program invites educators\, artists\, and anyone with a passion for nature to explore embodied\, intuitive practices for ecological education\, enrichment\, wellness\, and advocacy.    \n\n\n\nThe presentation will be followed by a 60-minute workshop in various practices to relax your body\, open your senses\, and refresh your friendship with the living world. \n\n\n\nTo learn more about performance ecology and the Wild Knowing project\, visit WildKnowing.org. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJ. Philip Grygny is an independent\, interdisciplinary artist and scholar interested in the intersections of art\, science\, nature\, and culture. In 2017\, he founded the Performance Ecology Project to explore how artistic and contemplative practices can deepen our relationship with the living world. His activities include The Performance Ecology Project (2017)\, Adventures in the Deep World (2019)\, and A Walk on the Wild Side (2024). He currently leads programs called “The Arts of Self-Rewilding” for MKE REC. Select essays by J.
