CANCELLED – Spring Conference: #ALT_MKE: Stories of a 21st Century City

Apr 30, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - May 2, 2020 @ 5:30 pm

***We’re sad to announce our spring conference, #ALT_MKE: Stories of a 21st Century City, has been cancelled. It was going to be an extraordinary gathering, but in many ways, the work of the conference must now be done in our communities and in the forms of care and activism that we practice. Stay safe!***

Our annual spring conference, “#ALT_MKE: Stories of a 21st Century City,” will be held on April 30-May 2, 2020.

Partly in response to the 2020 Democratic National Convention being held in Milwaukee in July, #ALT_MKE asks, at this critical juncture, how we must rethink our political imaginations and critical engagements. Can Milwaukee, and other urban areas like it, offer novel answers to the intractable problems that confront us?

Confirmed plenary speakers include: Dasha Kelly Hamilton (Milwaukee’s Poet Laureate), L.A. Kauffman (author/activist), Juan De Lara (University of Southern California), Brian Larkin (Barnard College/Columbia University), Monique Liston (Ubuntu Research), Rick Lowe (University of Houston), and AbdouMaliq Simone (University of Sheffield).

Unfortunately Fatima El-Tayeb will no longer be able to speak at the conference.

Visit the conference website for more information about the plenary talks, registration, and additional conference events.
