CANCELLED – Hester Blum: Brown Bag Discussion and Annual Literature and Cultural Theory Lecture

Apr 24, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Unfortunately the annual Literature and Cultural Theory lecture on 4/23 and coordinated events (including this brown bag) have been cancelled. But happily Hester Blum has agreed to visit next academic year — details to follow.

Join us for a special brown bag discussion with Hester Blum (Penn State) on Friday, April 24 at 1pm in the Center for 21st Century Studies (Curtin 939)!

On Thursday, April 23, from 2-3:30 (venue TBA), Blum will be giving the English Department’s annual Literature and Cultural Theory lecture, titled “‘The Earth is Faster Now’: Arctic Indigeneity and the Timescales of Climate Change.” This brown bag discussion will be related to her talk.

Hester Blum is the author of The News at the Ends of the Earth: The Print Culture of Polar Exploration (Duke, 2019), and has just returned from the Canadian Arctic with the Northwest Passage Project to research effects of the climate crisis. There will also be an exhibit at UWM’s American Geographical Society library in conjunction with Blum’s visit to campus.
