The Lubar School of Business Career Center was remodeled in early 2022 and is now officially open for business!

The enhanced Career Center includes eight interview suites with virtual interview capabilities, Dream Exchange Conference Room, and staff offices for one-on-one career counseling for Lubar School of Business students with Lubar career professionals. The new space has a modern aesthetic, and is part of a broad initiative to improve student support, study, and social spaces within the Lubar School, including a Tutoring Center and Deloitte Communications Lab that were opened last fall, and a forthcoming new student lounge and study spaces in Lubar Hall.

“Ensuring that our students are ‘job ready’ while facilitating the relationships between employers and our students is paramount to what we do,” says Sheldon B. Lubar Dean Kaushal Chari. “It is the ultimate measure of success.”

To that effect, Chari notes that the modernized facility provides a welcoming environment for students and recruiters alike, with added amenities for students to utilize space for virtual interviews. “If needed, our students can use our new, fully-equipped interview suites to conduct virtual interviews within a professional facility, rather than from their apartments or bedrooms.”

The official ribbon cutting for the new space took place in early May, with a celebration that included UWM Chancellor Mark Mone, Vice Chancellor of Development and Alumni Relations Joan Nesbitt, Dean Kaushal Chari, and four donors to the new space, whose generosity entirely funded the project.

They include:

Jim and Betty Hunter. Jim and Betty are both serial entrepreneurs, and they have used their knowledge and expertise to advance the Lubar School. Jim taught his first course at Lubar almost 30 years ago, and currently serves as the Bostrom Entrepreneur-in-Residence. Betty has been an advisor to students at the national Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization conference for over 10 years. Their gift funds the Betty and Jim Hunter Interview Suite.

Jennifer Hansen (’00) and Michael Hansen (’00). Jennifer and Michael both graduated from the Lubar School’s Executive MBA program, and have since been enthusiastic volunteers and generous donors to UWM. Jennifer is an entrepreneur who has started, grown, and sold businesses over the last 25 years and now leads Just Jennifer Consulting. Mike is Vice President of Packaging at Paper Machinery Corporation. Their gift funds the Jennifer Hansen ’00 and Michael Hansen ’00 Interview Suite.

Jim Tucker (’89) and Lee Steinke. Jim is a loyal alumnus from the accounting program who received a Leer/Tellier Scholarship in his senior year. This allowed Jim to see firsthand how important philanthropy is to students. He has led a successful career at Johnson Controls International. Though he and spouse Lee now live in Florida, Jim returns each year to speak to accounting students. Their gift funds the Jim Tucker ’89 and Lee Steinke Interview Suite.

Dream Exchange. Joe Cecala is a former attorney who helped write the Main Street Growth Act, and who is reimagining the stock exchange industry. He is the founder and CEO of Dream Exchange, a company focused on growing small business capital and diversity through public investing. Next year, Dream Exchange will open two new stock exchanges. The company’s gift funds the Dream Exchange Conference Room in the Career Center.
