Areas of Expertise

Dr. Rathburn specializes in understanding how managers can think and act more strategically. She is also interested in how managers can use visual thinking tools and strategies to solve strategic problems and communicate more effectively in today’s complex, team-based environments. Her current research focuses on management pedagogy and the ways that we can use technology to help people learn more deeply and effectively. Her research has been published in Leadership Quarterly and Annual Advances in Business Cases. She has also published numerous instructional materials including an in-depth case study of Wisconsin-based Kohl's Corporation. Dr. Rathburn is currently serving the Lubar School as Faculty Director of the Business Scholars Program and the Integrative Project experience in the Executive MBA Program. Her primary teaching interest areas include strategic thinking and action, leadership, organizational behavior and managing diversity in organizations

Professional Activities

Dr. Rathburn is a member of the Academy of Management, the Center for Courage and Renewal’s Facilitator Preparation Program and a charter member of the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (IS-SOTL). She also serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Management Education.
